The world’s second richest person, Elon Musk, has made a shocking assertion. The Tesla CEO said that anyone can hack electronic voting machines (EVMs) and they need to be eradicated. He demanded the removal of EVMs from American elections.

Raised the Issue Through a Post

Elon Musk addressed the issue on social media platform X, claiming that EVMs are susceptible to hacking. He reacted to a post by Robert F. Kennedy Jr., an independent candidate for the U.S. presidency, by calling for the elimination of EVMs.

Kennedy Jr. had posted about irregularities related to EVMs in Puerto Rico elections. He mentioned hundreds of voting irregularities observed in Puerto Rico, which were identified due to the presence of a paper trail.

Kennedy further questioned the fate of countries without a paper trail, arguing that American citizens have the right to know whether their vote was accurately counted and not tampered with.

EVMs Vulnerable to AI Hacking

Kennedy proposed returning to paper ballots as the only solution to this problem. Supporting Kennedy, Musk reiterated on X that EVMs must be avoided and eliminated due to the hacking risks posed by both humans and AI.

What is an EVM?

An electronic voting machine (EVM) is used for voting and counting votes, aiming to make the voting process simpler, faster, and more reliable. EVMs are also used in Indian elections. Currently, EVMs are employed in over 25 countries, including Brazil, Venezuela, and the Philippines, for their election processes.
